RIDGEFIELD, CT — While very much out of character to do anything of consequence without a great deal of careful deliberation and planning, David nonetheless departed this life quite suddenly on Dec. 30, 2022, while at home.

David was born in Newton, MA and was the son of the late Robert B. Paddock and Ann Kastner Paddock. David lived most of his life in Connecticut, first in Stamford, later in Danbury and finally in Ridgefield. He graduated from Rippowam High School in Stamford and earned his Bachelor’s degree from American International College and his Master’s Degree in Social Work for Columbia University School of Social Work.

Prior to obtaining his master’s degree in social work, David worked in the field of elementary education, primarily in the town of Greenwich. The degree in social work led him in a different direction, namely, to work with individuals with serious mental health challenges and substance use disorders as a clinician at the F.S. DuBois Center in Stamford. He was well known and highly respected by his colleagues and clients as a skillful, caring, compassionate and deeply thoughtful clinician.

David was a devoted son to both of his parents, most especially in their declining years. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for them to make their lives more comfortable and to attend to their needs as they became less able to do things on their own. He was equally devoted to his colleagues and friends and will be forever remembered as a sweet, gentle, and kind soul. While he was chronically late and hopelessly pokey at times, he more than made up it for it with his deep and compassionate listening, his ever present, quick wit and his erudition without the slightest pretense.

In addition to his mother and father, David was predeceased by his brother, Douglas E. Paddock. He is survived by his nieces, Nicole, Michaela and McKenzie Paddock and by his sister-in-law, Susan Gorey-Paddock.

While David’s departure was quite sudden, his final farewell and celebration of his life will be thoughtfully and carefully planned and organized in a manner consistent with who he was as a person. There are no calling hours but a gathering in David’s memory will be held at a later date.
