Following the Special Town Meeting was the Board of Selectpersons Meeting. Here are the highlights:
- The proposed lease agreement for the use of 66 Grove Street as the new location for the 18-22 Special Needs students and the Alternative High School is moving forward. After the lease details are finalized, a Public Hearing and Town Meeting will be scheduled. Keep an eye out for those dates!
- An application has been submitted to Planning & Zoning to expand the Main Street District Design (MSDD)* floating zone from northern Main Street to include a portion of East Ridge Road, just south of Governor Street. The zoning change would allow the property owner to build 4 new single family buildings on his 58 Prospect Ridge lot while preserving the historic character of his 62 East Ridge property, which sits directly in front. This application includes 76 East Ridge Road, which is the current Police Headquarters. If accepted, the floating zone** would provide more options for the use of the property if the department ends up moving locations. The BOS has no objections to the proposed change.
- The MSDD is a floating zone that was established by PZC with the intention to:
- provide higher density residential housing within close proximity of the Town center commercial area to support economic, cultural, and social vitality;
- ~maintain the residential character of Main Street;
- conform to the goals and objectives of the 2002 North Main Street Plan and the 2010 Town Plan of Conservation and Development;
- preserve natural, historic, and aesthetic qualities of Main Street; and
- preserve existing structures of historic or architectural interest.
- A floating zone allows a property owner to apply for the approved zone change if desired. If not, the zone for that property stays as is.
