Ridgefield-based Boehringer Ingelheim Starts Second Expansion

Ridgefield-based , which , has reportedly started a second expansion project at its campus at 900 Ridgebury Road: construction on a $65 million research and development facility.

According to a report in the Hartford Courant, citing a company statement, the new 72,000-square-foot facility "will handle production of active pharmaceutical ingredients used in early development activities."

U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., and Rep. Jim Himes, D-4th District, reportedly both praised the project, which is scheduled for completion in 2014.

Meanwhile the 63,000 square foot Safety Assessment Building is scheduled for completion in 2013.

Boehringer Ingelheim, with more than 42,000 employees worldwide, reportedly had net sales of $16.7 billion in 2010.
