The BOS met on Wednesday, Feb 7th for their first meeting of the month. Here are the highlights…
The Public Works Director will be retiring in 3 months. Following his retirement, the department will be restructuring the management team. This involves hiring an Administrative Manager who would handle administrative duties and oversee project management, and adding the position of Assistant Foreman as support to the Head Foreman. The restructure does not change the budget amount that has already been submitted for the upcoming fiscal year.
Recent State legislature is requiring every municipality with a population of 25,000 or more to establish a Fair Rent Commission. With a population of 25,033, Ridgefield meets that requirement. The Board of Selectpersons will function as the Fair Rent Commission. There will be a Public Hearing on March 20th on the draft ordinance. After the Public Hearing, the Board will schedule a Town Meeting for a vote.
Braver Angels is a national group that brings Americans together to bridge the partisan divide with the goal of strengthening the democratic republic. They are interested in creating controlled community debates on the hot topics, such as the flagpole policy, here in Ridgefield.
The Planning & Zoning Commission has been doing their due diligence regarding the question of rezoning the Branchville area for the purpose of Transit Oriented Development (TOD). At their past few meetings the Commission hosted Francis Pickering, Executive Director WestCOG, who talked about what makes a successful TOD; Francisco Gomes, from Fitzgerald & Halliday Inc., who did the initial Branchville TOD study back in 2017; and finally Rudy Marconi, First Selectperson, who has been involved with the proposal from the start.
