Not even a lightning storm could slow down the Darien boys lacrosse team, which served notice Wednesday that it will take a monumental effort to prevent this juggernaut from winning a seventh consecutive state championship.
In a game that many expected would be closer, the Blue Wave jumped out to a big early lead and coasted to a 17-10 victory over Ridgefield in rainy Darien.
The game was delayed for an hour after the Blue Wave build a commanding 12-2 halftime advantage.

The Blue Wave, whose only two losses this season came to out-of-state national powers, finished the regular season 14-2 overall and 11-0 in the FCIAC.
Wednesday's game matched the top two teams in the state according to the Laxpower.com rankings, but Darien took control midway through the first quarter and never looked back.

The Blue Wave simply had too much firepower as Case Matheis, Richard Gregory and Ben Preston each scored four goals.
Graham Maybell added three goals for the Blue Wave and Bobby Weaver registered the other two.
Andrew Buckanavage scored four goals for Ridgefield (12-4, 9-2), which made it a bit more respectable in the second half though the outcome never was in doubt.
Eric Scala, Matt Hrvatin, Tim Kelly, Sean Riley, William Bonaparte, Seam Wilkinson and David Arturi each had one goal for the Tigers.
Wednesday's clash was the final regular-season game for both teams as the FCIAC playoffs begin next week.
