Ridgefield Boys Lacrosse Routs Conard To Reach Class L Semifinals

Andrew Buckanavage and Eric Scala each scored four goals Saturday as the Ridgefield boys lacrosse team routed Conard 17-5 in the quarterfinals of the CIAC Class L state tournament.

The sixth-seeded Tigers (16-5) advanced to Wednesday's semifinal against FCIAC rival Staples, the No. 2 seed which defeat McMahon 8-4 on Saturday.

Ridgefield simply had too many weapons for Conard as Aidan Scott, Matt Hrvatin and Sean Wilkinson all scored two goals apiece. Neil Gollogly, Sean Riley and John Barrow each added one.

Gollogly  had three assists, Scott and Riley two each and Buckanavage, Wilkinson and Wiley one apiece. Adam Winnie made six saves for the Tigers, who won 20 of 25 faceoffs with John Dighton winning 16 of 19 draws.

Ridgefield defeated Staples during the regular season, posting a 10-6 victory on Apirl 12.

The Tigers are looking to advance to a state final for the first time in school history. The winner of the Ridgefield-Staples contest will meet the Fairfield Prep-Simsbury winner in the final next Saturday at McMahon.
