Kurt Steidl erupts for 42 points as Tigers rout Hilltoppers 84-64 to improve to 11-1

Thanks to Kurt Steidl, who had a memorable night, the Ridgefield boys basketball team had no trouble rebounding from its first loss of the season.

Steidl erupted for 42 points Friday as the Tigers hammered Bridgeport Central 84-64 on Friday night to improve to 11-1 overall and 9-1 in the FCIAC.

Fourteen was the magic number for Steidl as he made 14 field goals and shot 14-of-14 from the foul line.

While Ridgefield did allow a season high in points, the Tigers bounced back from Tuesday's 48-44 setback to Trinity Catholic.

With Steidl almost singlehandedly beating the Hilltoppers, Ridgefield's next leading scorer was Jack Heller with eight points.

After the Tigers jumped out to a 21-11 lead after the first quarter, Central outscored Ridgefield 19-13 in the second period to pull within 34-30 at the intermission.

But Ridgefield put it away durng a dominating third quarter when it outscored the Hilltoppers by a 29-13 margin. The Tigers exploded for 50 points in the second half.

Shaquan Bretox scored 16 points to pace Central, which dropped to 7-4 and 7-4
