Ridgefield Doctor Ordered to Pay $270K in Medicare Fraud Case

A Ridgefield doctor has been ordered to pay $270,000 to settle civil charges that he sent bills to Medicare for treating patients he never saw, according to the Connecticut Law Tribune.

Dr. David Lester Johnston, 46, operates Osteopathic Wellness Center, LLC, and pleaded guilty last January to one count of health care fraud, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Connecticut.

Johnston was charged with 14 counts of health care fraud and making false statements in March 2014, the Ridgefield Press reports. He was sentenced to three months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, the first six months of which must be served under house arrest. Johnston must pay also pay $172,950 in restitution.
