Ridgefield Drug Company Partners to Take on Bowel Disease

The German-based firm will work with academia to find treatments for the disorder.

A pharmaceuticals company with headquarters in Ridgefield announced collaborations that take aim at inflammatory bowel disease.

Boehringer Ingelheim, which is based in Germany, said it will work alongside researchers from the Icahn School of Medicine, Massachusetts General Hospital and others to focus efforts on Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis and other kinds of inflammatory bowel disorders, the Danbury News Times reported.

Clive Wood, senior corporate vice president of discovery research at Boehringer Ingelheim, said academic and industrial collaborations are effective ways to advance research.

He said the hope is to transform the treatment of the diseases, the News Times said.
