Ridgefield Emergency Response Team Offers Winter Storm Guidance
Ridgefield's Office of Emergency Management is urging residents to be prepared for sudden and fast-moving storms.
RIDGEFIELD, CT — The town's Office of Emergency Management is urging residents to be prepared for sudden and fast-moving storms.
Such weather can result in poor driving conditions and the residents becoming stranded in their cars.
Ridgefield’s Community Emergency Response Team, part of OEM, has compiled a checklist of items they recommend you keep in your vehicle:
- Full tank of gas, or a completely charged electric vehicle
- Cell phone and portable charger
- Items to stay warm such as extra hats, coats, mittens, blankets
- Mylar blanket/hand/foot warmers/power bars
- Windshield scraper and shovel/towing cables/pocketknife/universal tool/waterproof matches
- Battery-powered radio, flashlight (extra batteries for both)
- Water/non-perishable snack food (if car is not garaged be mindful of frozen water containers)
- First aid kit(s) with any necessary medications
- Bag of cat litter or sand to help tires get traction, or road salt to melt ice
- Hazard or other reflectors; bright colored or emergency distress flag. Help signs, emergency and/or emergency flares/cones
