Ridgefield Main Street Project Begins With Tree Clearing Downtown
Town officials expect the work, which is scheduled only to occur at night, will be completed during the next one to two weeks.
RIDGEFIELD, CT — Several trees will start disappearing from downtown Ridgefield, beginning Monday evening.
The removal of the trees "is essential to the overall success of the Main Street Project," according to statement released by the Ridgefield Chamber of Commerce Monday
Town officials expect the work, which is scheduled only to occur at night, will be completed during the next one to two weeks.
"After critical meetings among the State DOT, Ridgefield’s Tree Warden, and the landscape architect retained by the Town, it was determined that several trees are threatening the safety of Main Street," First Selectman Rudy Marconi said in the release. "This project provides a wonderful opportunity to remove dangerous and dying trees and replace them with beautiful native species. The tree work will help beautify the street, comply with the State's requirements, and improve safety."
The Main Street Project will feature dedicated turning lanes at each intersection, new landscaping to reflect the downtown's aesthetic, nine additional parking spaces in the CVS parking lot, bump-outs to calm traffic, and pedestrian-activated, flashing crosswalk signs.
Following the clearing of the trees, construction will begin at the intersection of Prospect and Main Streets, and the CVS parking lot.
