Ridgefield Named Among Safest Places to Raise Children: Report
It was one of only two towns to make the list this year and last year.

RIDGEFIELD, CT — Ridgefield has been named one of the safest places to raise a child two years in a row, according to new rankings published by SafeWise. It's one of only two Connecticut communities, along with Greenwich, to make the list of 50.
Ridgefield came in at 37, with Greenwich placing considerably higher at number 12.
Last year Connecticut dominated the rankings, representing nearly a third of the list, thanks to what SafeWise called "an exceptionally low rate of violent crime." This year, that honor goes to Wisconsin, which nabbed 32 percent of the 50 slots.
The company uses eight metrics: violent crimes, AMBER Alerts, sex offenders, child abuse, school quality, pedestrian deaths, walkability score, and state free-range parenting legislation to formulate its rankings. Municipalities in the top thirty are considered “very walkable,” which means that most errands can be accomplished on foot.
