Ridgefield Ponders More Downtown Parking
Multiple initiatives could increase the number of spaces downtown.

RIDGEFIELD, CT — Additional parking is planned in the Ridgefield business district, but it won't materialize in time for holiday shoppers, the News Times is reporting.
Two initiatives to relieve parking woes downtown, a planned 63-car lot and a possible land lease to increase the supply of all-day parking, were discussed at the Nov. 13 selectmen meeting.
The planned new parking lot was approved by voters in the May referendum.

The possible land lease was first broached at a Nov. 13 meeting of the town selectmen, reports The Ridgefield Press. The plan discussed calls for a license deal with Casey Energy to allow town employees to park on the gravel area off lower Bailey Avenue, near the former railroad warehouse building. The new space would accommodate town employees and others who would likely lose their current reserved spaces as the town reduces the pool of permits, freeing up more spaces for shoppers, restaurant-goers and other spenders in the heart of the business distict.
