If there's any consolation for the Ridgefield junior American Legion team, it can say that it beat the eventual state champion on the field.
Bristol lost to Ridgefield 8-5 in the quarterfinals last Thursday, but advanced when Ridgefield was eliminated for using an ineligible player.

Ridgefield's loss turned out to be Bristiol's gain, as the latter defeated top seed Bethel 1-0 on Saturday, then toppled Stamford 6-3 on Sunday to win the state title at home at Muzzy Field.

Stamford was trying to win the town's first Legion title in either the junior or senior ranks since 1957.
Ridgefield's Maria Maydan (women's double sculls) has been named to the U.S. Junior National Team that will compete in the 2011 World Rowing Junior Championships in Eton Dorney, Great Britain from Wednesday through Sunday.
A recent graduate of Ridgefield High School, Maydan was a member of a New Milford-based GMS Rowing Club team that finished first in the Youth National Rowing Championship in Tennessee in June.
Maydan's team, which ,competed in a quadruple scull, qualified for the national event by finishing second in the Northeast Regionals in May.
In the fall, Maydan will enroll at the University of California, where she will continue her rowing career.
World champions will be crowned in 13 events including the men’s single sculls, women’s single sculls, men’s double sculls, women’s double sculls, men’s quadruple sculls, women’s quadruple sculls, men’s pair, women’s pair, men’s four, women’s four, men’s four with coxswain, men’s eight and women’s eight.
At the 2010 World Rowing Junior Championships, the U.S. brought home a record four medals including gold in the men’s eight, silver in the women’s eight and women’s four, and bronze in the men’s single sculls.
Sisters Rosie Grinalds (women's pair) and Lucy Grinalds (women's four) of Southport also earned spots on the team.
The squad also includes three rowers from Westport: Max Meyer-Bosse and Alex Perkins in the men's eight) and Elizabeth Youngling in women's quadruple sculls.
Other local athletes named to the team are: New Canaan's Charlie Campbell and Weston's Graham Anderson in the men's sculls, and New Canaan's Jonathon Rosow (men's 4x) and Diedre Fitzpactrick (women's 8x).
