Coming off its second straight 18-6 season, the Ridgefield girls basketball opens its 2011-12 campaign on Wednesday when the Tigers host St. Joseph at 7 p.m.
Last season, Ridgefield lost to Trumbull in the FCIAC championship game, then was upset by Cheshire in the first round of the Class LL state tournament.

The Tigers lost three key players from last year's team in forward Molly Welch, an all-FCIAC first team pick, guard Kathryn Cholko and forward Ellie Gravitte.
Ridgefield does return senior guard Emily Favorite, who is in her third season as a starter and figures to be the Tigers' top scoring threat.

Other key players back are senior point guard Lauren Eckstrom, junior forward Gemma Howard and senior guard Sammie Jancin.
