As expected, the boys hockey team has climbed to No. 2 in this week's New Haven Register media top-10 state poll.

The Tigers (7-1) jumped from fourth after posting a 2-1 win over then second-ranked Notre Dame of West Haven on Jan. 11.

Ridgefield has won seven in a row and has not lost since a season-opening 3-0 defeat to defending Division I state champion Fairfield Prep.

The Jesuits (7-2) held on to the top spot, collecting all 15 first-place votes.

Notre Dame of West Haven (9-2) dropped one spot to third and is followed by Hamden (6-3) and Glastonbury (7-2) to complete the top five.

South Windsor (8-2) is sixth, followed by West Haven (6-2), Xavier (6-3-2), East Haven (8-1-1) and Darien (5-3).

FCIAC members St. Joseph (5-4), New Canaan (5-3-1) and Trumbull (7-2) are receiving votes.

After moving up in the rankings, Ridgefield went out and blanked Stamford 6-0 on Wednesday night at the Terry Conners Rink.

Vin Rella and Jack Tregurtha each scored two goals for the Tigers and Sean Wilkensen and Corey Dunn added one apiece. Backup goalkeeper Dustin Rausa record 18 saves for the shutout.

The Tigers, who registered 30 shots, scored twice in the first period, then broke it open with four goals in the midle period.

Stamford dropped to 2-7-1.
