Stamford is heading in the opposite direction and is danger of missing the state tournament a year after reaching the FCIAC finals.
The Black Knights are coming off a 63-54 loss to Danbury, their third straight defeat. The setback dropped Stamford to 5-7.
Meanwhile, the Ridgefield girls host Stamford (also at 5:30 p.m.). The Tigers (5-9, 5-7) snapped a three-game losing streak with Friday's 46-14 win over Central, a game in which Ridgefield outscored the Hilltoppers 15-0 in the second quarter.
With only six games left in the season, Ridgefield needs a win to improve its state tournament hopes. The Tigers must do no worse than split their remaining contests to qualify for postseason play.
Stamford (7-7, 7-5) is in the thick of the FCIAC playoff chase as the Black Knights are locked in a five-way tie for seventh with Darien, Norwalk, Staples and Fairfield Warde in the league standings.
However, the Black Knights have been slumping. Friday's 55-42 loss to undefeated Danbury was their fifth defeat in six games.
