With the East Hartford-West Hartford game suspended until Wednesday, the start of the main junior American Legion state tournament was pushed back until Thursday.

The outcome of that game will determine the quarterfinal matchups. Ridgefield will play at either Veterans Field in Windsor Locks or Rogers Park in Danbury.

Ridgefield remained on a roll Monday, posting a 10-4 win at No. 6 seed Orange to advance to the single-elimination state tournament.

Seeded 11th, Ridgefield (22-7) posted two wins in the play-in tournament to extend the team's winning streak to 15 games.

Ridgefield was joined by three other area clubs in the final field of eight, meanining half the teams will be from zone four.

Trumbull upset top-seed Niantic 4-2 for its second straight win and zone four champion Stamford, which received two byes, defeated Enfield, 10-0.

Norwalk defeated RCP 2-0 on Tuesday in the completion of a suspended game.

Ridgefield's Maria Maydan (women's double sculls) has been named to the U.S. Junior National Team that will compete in the 2011 World Rowing Junior Championships in Eton Dorney, Great Britain from Aug. 3-7.

World champions will be crowned in 13 events including the men’s single sculls, women’s single sculls, men’s double sculls, women’s double sculls, men’s quadruple sculls, women’s quadruple sculls, men’s pair, women’s pair, men’s four, women’s four, men’s four with coxswain, men’s eight and women’s eight.

At the 2010 World Rowing Junior Championships, the U.S. brought home a record four medals including gold in the men’s eight, silver in the women’s eight and women’s four, and bronze in the men’s single sculls.

Sisters Rosie Grinalds (women's pair) and Lucy Grinalds (women's four) of Southport also earned spots on the team.

The squad also includes three rowers from Westport: Max Meyer-Bosse and Alex Perkins in the men's eight) and Elizabeth Youngling in women's quadruple sculls.

Other local athletes named to the team are: New Canaan's Charlie Campbell and Weston's Graham Anderson in the men's sculls, and New Canaan's Jonathon Rosow (men's 4x) and Diedre Fitzpactrick (women's 8x).
