The Ridgefield boys lacrosse team will be gunning for its second FCIAC title in three years on Friday when the Tigers face Darien at McMahon High School at 7 p.m.
Ridgefield advanced to the finals with a solid 10-5 win over Greenwich, holding the Tigers scoreless for more than 26 minutes during one stretch. Darien reached the final with a 9-6 semifinal win over Wilton.
"These kids are in for a real treat," Ridgefield coach Roy Colsey said. "It's just real nice thing for us to have this opportunity to be in the championship."
But the Tigers know they need a better effort this time against Darien. Last week against the Blue Wave, the Tigers suffered a 17-10 loss after falling behind 13-2 at the half.
"We just need to come out for four quarters and play hard like tonight," said Andrew Buckanavage, who had four goals in the win over Greenwich. "Don't let up. We can't afford to fall behind one of the best teams in the country."
While Darien has won six consecutive state crowns, the Blue Wave suprisingly has not captured an FCIAC championship since 2008.
