Ridgefield's Matt White will play for a national championship on Monday when Virginia takes on Maryland in the NCAA Divsion I lacrosse final in Baltimore.

The Cavaliers (12-5) advanced to their first final since 2006 with a 14-8 semifinal victory over Denver on Saturday. Chris Bocklet, Mark Cockerton and Steele Stanwick each scored hat tricks for Virginia, which is in the final for the ninth time in school history.

White chipped in with a goal and two assists, giving him eight points (five goals and three assists)  in Virginia's three tournament games. He scored the overtime game-winner in the Cavaliers' 13-12 first-round victory over Bucknell.

Monday's title game starts at 3:30 p.m. and will be televised live on ESPN in HD.

Maryland (13-4) eliminate defending national champion Duke 9-4 to reach the championship game. The Terrapins are seeking their first lacrosse crown since 1975.
