Seeded 25th, the Ridgefield girls soccer team (5-6-5) will be looking to pull the upset when it visits No. 8 seed West Haven (12-3-1) on Thursday in the first round of the CIAC Class LL state tournament (6 p.m.).

Should the Tigers pull it off, they would face the winner of the clash betweeen No. 9 Greenwich and No. 24 Manchester in the second round on Saturday.

The Ridgefield boys soccer team (7-6-3) finished strong down the stretch and hopes to continue its momentum when the Tigers visit SWC power Newtown in the first round of the Class LL tournament on Friday (4 p.m.).

Awaiting the winner is a second-round contest against either No. 9 Fairfield Prep, the SCC champion, or No. 24 Crosby on Monday.

Ridgefield seemed a long shot to make the state playoffs when its record stood at 2-6-1, but the Tigers finished 5-0-2 to qualify for postseason play.

The Ridgefield girls volleyball team, coming off a 3-0 loss to Darien in the FCIAC finals, has a bye into the second round.

The fifth-seeded Tigers (18-3) host the Greenwich-Fairfield Warde winner in the second round on Saturday (2 p.m),

Seven Ridgefield teams have advanced in the Fairfield County Football League playoffs. Because of last week's postponements, quarterfinal games in each age bracket will be played on Tuesday and Wednesday to complete the playoffs before Thanksgiving. Semifinal games are set for this weekend with the finals scheduled for next weekend.
