The 25th-seed Ridgefield girls soccer team upset No. 8 West Haven 3-1 on Thursday in the first round of the Class LL state tournament.

The Tigers (6-6-5) will visit No. 9 seed Greenwich, the reigning FCIAC champion, in a second-round contest on Saturday at 2 p.m.  The Cardinald advanced Thursday with a 3-1 win over No. 24 seed Manchester.

Ridgefield will be looking to avenge a 2-1 loss to Greenwich on Oct. 10 in a regular-season game. 

The Ridgefield football team (6-2) seeks its seventh win on Friday when the Tigers visit Bridgeport Central in a 6 p.m. kickoff.

The Tigers are coming off a 35-20 win over Harding and maintain slim hopes of qualifying for the Class LL state playoffs.

Ridgefield is 11th in the latest state rankings, meaning it will need a lot of help to climb into the top eight with only two games left in the regular season.

Bridgeport Central blasted Trumbull 50-20 last week to improve to 3-5.

The Ridgefield boys soccer team (7-6-3) finished strong down the stretch and hopes to continue its momentum when the Tigers visit SWC power Newtown in the first round of the Class LL tournament on Friday (4 p.m.).

Awaiting the winner is a second-round contest against either No. 9 Fairfield Prep, the SCC champion, or No. 24 Crosby on Monday.

Ridgefield seemed a long shot to make the state playoffs when its record stood at 2-6-1, but the Tigers finished 5-0-2 to qualify for postseason play.

The Ridgefield girls volleyball team, coming off a 3-0 loss to Darien in the FCIAC finals, has a bye into the second round.

The fifth-seeded Tigers (18-3) host the Greenwich in the second round on Saturday (2 p.m). The Cardinals advanced with a 3-1 win over Fairfield Warde on Thursday.

One Ridgefield teams - the seventh grade Orange - has made it to the The semifinals of the Fairfield County Football League playoffs, which will be played this weekend.
