University of Florida freshman Tommy Jordan has elected to take a medical redshirt, the Ridgefield Press reported.

The move was expected after the former Ridgefield High School standout recently underwent season-ending shoulder surgery. Jordan still will have four years of eligibility remaining for the Gators, who are enduring a difficult first season under coach Will Muschamp.

Last week's 17-12 loss to South Carolina assured that Florida will finish with a losing record in the SEC for the first time since 1986.

At 5-5 (3-5 in the SEC), the Gators need to at least split their remaining two games to become bowl eligible. Florida recently endured its first four-game losing streak since 1988 and is 1-5 since starting the season 0-4.
