After an abbreviated week nine schedule, the Ridgefield football team is tied for 10th in the Class LL rankings heading into Wednesday's regular-season finale against Danbury.
However, the Tigers appear to be in good position to secure a state playoff berth (must finish in the top eight), assuming, of course, a win over the Hatters.
The race for the final playoff spot in Class LL is remarkably close as Shelton and Pomperaug are tied for eighth with 940 points and just 10 points ahead of Ridgefield and Glastonbury.
Shelton has 130 points available against Derby (3-6) and an additional 70 bonus points on the line, but the Gaels would need wins by the likes of Hamden, Guilford and Wilbur Cross, who will be heavy underdogs in their Thanksgiving Day games.
Pomperaug can secure 130 points with a win over Oxford (3-6) and has an additional 30 bonus available. It also has a guaranteed 20 bonus points.
Glastonbury has 130 points available against Simsbury (3-6) and 10 guaranteed bonus points along with an additional 50 bonus points possible.
Ridgefield gets 150 points with a win over Danbury (5-4) and also has 20 guaranteed 20 bonus points in its back pocket. The Tigers also have a additional 30 bonus points on the table. The teams they need to win are McMahon (Norwalk), Stamford (Westhill) and Wilton (Trinity Catholic)
Of the four teams, Ridgefield appears to have the most favorable schedule.
McMahon certainly will be an underdog, but Stamford and Wilton will be favorites in their games.
Ridgefield also would get a huge boost if Greenwich (seventh in the Class LL rankings) loses to Staples in the FCIAC championship game.
