The Ridgefield football team would like nothing better than to end Wilton's undefeated season. The rivals clash at Fujitani Field on Thursday (6 p.m.) in an early-season clash that could have playoff implications.

Ridgefield (2-1) has bounced back from a season-opening 16-3 loss to Greenwich with wins over Fairfield Ludlowe and Stamford.

Last week, Connor Rowe threw three touchdown passes for the Tigers, who appeared be cruising to an easy win over the Black Knights, building a 34-14 lead entering the final period.  But Stamford made things interesting with two late scores and Ridgefield held on for a 34-28 victory.

Rowe has had an up and down start for the Tigers. He has passed for 613 yards and seven touchdowns but also has been picked off seven times.

Wilton is off to a 3-0 start and is just one win shy of last season's entire victory total (4-6).

However, the Warriors three wins have come against Bridgeport Central, St. Joseph and Bassick -- three teams who have a combined 0-9 record. Wilton will begin to find out how good it is - or isn't -- against the Tigers.

Last week, Wilton rolled over Bassick 42-6 in a game that was completed on Saturday after it was suspended a day earlier because of lightning. Connor Devane scored three touchdowns for Wilton, two after the contest was resumed.

The SCOR girls' U13 "Orange Crush" team dropped a 3-2 decision to Wilton on Sunday.

Coach Mark Ingala and manager Terrence Rychlik noted steady improvements in handling and passing skills.

"Sunday was a very exciting game for me as well as the girls even though we were on the losing side in the end," Ingala said.

Elizabeth Middlebrook scored both goals for New Canaan. Meghan Rayda appear to tally a third goal for the team, but it was called back because of an offsides ruling. Middlebrook and Lilian Epley each spent a half in the goal.
