Thursday marked the fifth consecutive day in which Ridgefield's athletic teams were not allowed to practice following the devastation caused by Hurricane Irene.

While some districts in the region have given the go-ahead to resume practices even while their schools remained closed, Ridgefield and Wilton are the two teams in the FCIAC not scheduled to practice again until their schools open on Tuesday. That would mean nine days off for the Tigers' football team.

Ridgefield and Wilton were two of the towns hit hardest by the hurricane.

Earlier this week, the CIAC announced that it would not waive its requirement of 14 practice days prior to the first regular-season game, although it did say that it would count Sunday as a practice day, something the CIAC did not do in the past.

The CIAC's requirement has put Ridgfield and Wilton in the position of likely having to postpone games.

The Ridgefield football team, which did not conduct spring ball, has had 11 practices, including the five conditioning days.

The CIAC is considering whether to count the conditioning days toward the 14-day practice requirement.

Assuming Ridgefield resumes practice in Tuesday, it would have the needed 14 days under its belt before the season opener on Sept. 16 even if the CIAC elects not to count the conditioning days.

It's the other teams that face likely postponements as their practices started a week later.

The Soccer Club of Ridgefield has postponed ts 28th annual Warm-Up Tournament, which was set for Saturday and Sunday. No makeup date has been announced.

According to the club's website, the tournament was postponed due to safety concerns stemming from onging cleanup from hurricane Irene.

No makeup date has been announced, but officials are hoping to re-schedule it for Columbus Day weekend.

The tournament is open to boys and girls travel teams from the U-9 through U-14 age divisions. All teams will play four games, two on each day.
