Ridgefield graduate Jake Kirsch is a sophomore defender on the Cornell men's soccer team.
Kirsch made just one appearance for the Big Red last year, coming off the bench in the season finale at Columbia on Nov. 13, a 1-1 draw with the Lions. Kirsch was an all-FCIAC selection at Ridgefield.
Cornell is off to an 0-1-1 start this season following a 1-1 tie against Layafette on Tuesday.
Ridgefield's annual football golf outing is set for Monday, Sept. 26 at the Salem Golf Club. The event benefits the Ridgefield Youth Football Association.
The Ridgefield Rebels U-12 girls fast-pitch softball team finished second in the season-ending tournament in Trumbull over the Labor Day weekend.
The three-day event attracts some the best softball talent in the 10U-16U categories across Fairfield County who come to pay tribute and raise money for the family of Donna Festa, a major supporter of Trumbull Little League who was killed in a car accident four years ago.
Christina Casazza (.588), Claire Phelan (.529) and Kiernan Phelan (.529) were among the hitting stars for the Rebels.
In the championship game, the Rebels fell 10-6 to the Fairfield Fury, who lost to Ridgefield in pool play.
The Soccer Club of Ridgefield has announced that its 28th annual Warm-Up Tournament is now scheduled for Oct. 8-9, which is Columbus Day Weekend.
The tournament was supposed to take place this past weekend, but was postponed in the wake of the damage caused by Hurricane Irene. The registration deadline now is Sept. 17.
The tournament is open to boys and girls teams, U-9 thru U-14. Trophies will be awarded to the U-11 thru U14 division winners. All U-9 and U-10 players will receive participation awards. Applications are accepted from classic travel and qualifying premier team.
Each team will play four games, two on each day. Games will consist of two 25-minute halves with a five-minute halftime. The entry fee is $450 per team.
