Ridgefield Sets Guidelines for Election of New Wetlands Board

Separation of the new board from the Planning and Zoning Commission will be effective with the 2019 elections.

RIDGEFIELD, CT — Guidelines for the separation of the Inland Wetlands Board (IWB) from the Planning and Zoning Commission have been established by the town, the Ridgefield Press is reporting.

Separation will be effective with the 2019 elections, and candidates will seek nomination through the Republican and Democratic town committees, mirroring the process for any other elected position.

There will be no restrictions on who can apply to the new board, following some discussion that the new seven-member body be elected from a pool of vetted and qualified candidates.

Additional staffing will likely be required to accommodate the IWB's administrative work, which will include filing meeting minutes, filing legal notices, and distributing documentation to the public.

Residents voted to separate the IWB from the Planning and Zoning Commission on Nov. 6 with 8,861 voting for and 2,928 against.
