Ridgefield's Matthew Philbin is the 13th seed in the 126-pound weight class in this weekend's state Open wrestling championships in New Haven.

The competition is set for Friday and Saturday at the Floyd Little Athletic Center.

First- and second-round matches will be contested on Friday starting at 4 p.m. After they have been completed, the consolation bouts get under way around 8 p.m.

On Saturday, the quarterfinal and second-round consolation matches begin at 10:15 a.m. They will be followed by the consolation quarterfinals and championship semifinals as wrestling continues through the day.

The finals are set to be begin on Saturday at 6 p.m. with champions to be crowned in each weight class.

The last two times the boys basketball has faced Stamford the Tigers have been held under 40 points.

Ridgefield (13-5) will try to end that trend on Saturday when the Tigers face Stamford (11-7) again in the FCIAC quarterfinals at Fairfield Ludlowe at noon.

This is a rematch of last year's quarterfinal game in which the Black Knights posted a 39-31 victory over en route to the finals, where they lost to Bassick. Stamford also won the regular-season meeting this year with a 50-39 victory on Jan. 31.

Ridgefield struggled down the stretch, but snapped a three-game losing streak on Wednesday with a 54-46 win over Westhill. Stamford earned the No. 6 seed with a 57-42 victory over Harding on Wednesday.

The Ridgefield-Stamford game is the first of four quarterfinals set for Saturday at Ludlowe.

No.2 Trinity Catholic (14-4) faces No. 7 Danbury (10-8) at 2 p.m., No. 4 Bassick (13-5) battles No. 5 Westhill (13-5) at 5 p.m. and top seed St. Joseph (18-0) takes on No. 8 Central (10-8) at 7 p.m.
