Ridgefield Volunteer Joins Team of Florence Relief Responders

He will be among the first volunteers heading south with the Red Cross to North Carolina.

RIDGEFIELD, CT — A local man will be among the first volunteers heading south with the Red Cross to aid the relief efforts for Hurricane Florence.

Thomas Kimball, of Ridgefield, will work as a sheltering service associate in Durham, N. C., where the storm may strike as early as Wednesday.

States of emergency have been declared in Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina. Even after making landfall, Florence could bring heavy rain all the way to New England.

The Red Cross is preparing to respond and has urged anyone in the path of this hurricane to get ready too. Hopkins will be joining other disaster workers standing by while relief supplies and equipment are being moved into the region. The Red Cross is also working in close collaboration with government officials and community partners to coordinate potential response efforts.
