Ridgefield's 14U Will Move on to State Tournament in Waterford

Here is an update on the 14U District Tournament.

Ridgefield’s won the District IV Tournament last night at in Danbury.  In a close fought game, Ridgefield pulled out the victory with a sacrifice fly off the bat of Nick Manderlink in the top of the seventh inning to win the game 5-4.   Ridgefield got on the scoreboard first with a run in the top of the first inning. 

walked to start the game and scored on two out double to left center three batters later. Brookfield tied the score in the bottom of the first off starter Joe Ammirato and added another run in the third to take a 2 – 1 lead.  Ridgefield jumped back on top in the fifth with three runs on hits by, Liam Smith, Joe Coyle and Sam Sarath.

 In the bottom of the fifth, Shane Murphy relieved Ammirato with the base loaded after Brookfield scored two runs to tie the game 4 – 4.  He got a force out at home and struck out the next two batters to preserve the tie.  Murphy pitched three scoreless innings and struck out five to earned the win for Ridgefield.  Ridgefield now moves on to the State Tournament in Waterford, CT.
