Steady Leadership, Proven Integrity: Re-elect John Frey to the Police Commission
Former Police Commissioner Christopher Leonard Endorses Lifelong Friend John Frey, Whom He's Known Since East Ridge Junior High
To the Editor:
I’ve known John Frey since we were classmates at East Ridge Junior High School — two Ridgefield kids who graduated from Ridgefield High in 1981. Over the decades, I’ve had the privilege of knowing John as a friend, colleague, and community leader — and I’ve seen firsthand his integrity, steadiness, and lifelong commitment to Ridgefield.
As someone who has served on the Ridgefield Police Commission myself, I understand what it takes to provide fair, consistent oversight while supporting the men and women who serve our town. John has done exactly that. During his five years on the Commission, including two as Chairman, he’s earned the respect of our officers and residents alike. He brings balanced judgment, professionalism, and genuine care for both the department and the community.
John’s public service record speaks for itself — 22 years representing Ridgefield in the Connecticut General Assembly, where he was named Legislator of the Year by the Connecticut Chiefs of Police Association for his support of public safety. He has also served as Chairman of the Connecticut Real Estate Commission and was recently appointed to the Advisory Board of the Governor M. Jodi Rell Center for Public Service at the University of Hartford — honors that reflect both leadership and character.
Beyond public office, John has always been deeply engaged in civic life. We share a long connection to the Boys & Girls Club of Ridgefield, where I’ve served as President and board member and John was honored as a Hall of Fame inductee and Champion of Youth. That spirit of service — rooted in community and humility — defines who he is.
Ridgefield is fortunate to have John Frey’s steady hand, deep experience, and genuine love for this town. I’m proud to support his re-election to the Police Commission and encourage others to join me.
