Teens Charged With Stealing SUV From Driveway In Ridgefield: Police

Two New Britain teens have been charged with larceny following the theft of an SUV from a Ridgefield Driveway.

RIDGEFIELD, CT — Two New Britain teens have been charged with larceny following the theft of an SUV from a Ridgefield Driveway.

The Ridgefield Police Department responded to a call about several people attempting to steal a vehicle from a driveway on Nutmeg Ridge, according to Capt. Jeff Raines of the Ridgefield Police.

Responding officers saw a white Volkswagen Atlas take off at a high rate of speed. Soon after, the Atlas was reported involved in an accident at the intersection of Main Street and Big Shop Lane, with all the occupants having fled on foot.

Police caught up with two of the car's occupants behind a house on Abbott Avenue and took them into custody.

Ayana Poventud, 19, of Lyman Street in New Britain, and Alejandro Santiago, 18, of Farmington Avenue in New Britain, were both charged with first-degree larceny. Poventud was also charged with failure to display lights, possession of marijuana, passing in a no-passing zone, disobeying an officer's signal, and evading with injury.

Poventud was unable to post her $5,000 bond and taken to Danbury Superior Court. Santiago was released on a $5,000 cash bond and scheduled to appear in court on June 6.
