Tuesday Night at the Movies with RIFF wraps with 'SURPRISING SHORTS'

RIDGEFIELD, CT — Tuesday Night at the Movies with RIFF wraps with "SURPRISING SHORTS, a program of five short finalist films from the 2022 submissions season," Dec. 6 at The Ridgefield Library.

Audiences will be asked to take a brief survey on each film to help RIFF determine if they should be included in the annual 4-day festival in May of 2023.

The films to be presented are: “Cracked” by Turkish director Mahmut Tas; “Yo Andrea” directed by Fairfield resident, Brian Russell; “Paradise” by Aptos, California director, Joshua M Thomas; “Gum” by Ridgefield native, Melanie Kardos; and the holiday film, “A Gift for All Ages” by Californians Russell Webb and Alicia Wszelaki. Two films, “Cracked” and “Paradise” confront the present and future water shortage in very different ways. In “Cracked” a little girl nurses her favorite pet, a flower; while “Paradise” depicts a post-apocalyptic world where two sisters search for water to survive, but find much more. “Yo Andrea'' wherein a middle-aged man hatches a plan to win the woman of his dreams, and “GUM,” a feminist take on “Groundhog Day” which depicts a young man’s attempt to transform the worst date ever into the perfect date, give us a glimpse of the ROMCom genre in short form. Finally, “A Gift For All Ages” takes viewers back to the “Golden Age of Hollywood” with a new “classic” film about life, love, and Christmas.
