WINNING: Ridgefield Named Safest City In Connecticut For Fourth Straight Year, Study Finds
Ridgefield ranks as the safest city in CT for the fourth year, with crime rates well below national averages, SafeWise reports.

For the fourth straight year, Ridgefield has been named the safest city in Connecticut, according to a new national analysis by SafeWise.
The annual report, which examines FBI crime data and population statistics across the country, ranked Ridgefield No. 1 in the state based on low per-capita crime rates. You can view the full report from SafeWise here.

A Look At Ridgefield’s Crime Trends
Ridgefield, with a population of 24,924, has maintained exceptionally low crime rates over the past several years. According to the SafeWise data, the town’s violent crime rate was 0.0 incidents per 1,000 residents in 2024, ticked up slightly to 0.1 in 2025, and stands at 0.2 in the 2026 report. Property crime has also remained comparatively low, though it has gradually increased — from 1.4 incidents per 1,000 residents in 2024 to 2.0 in 2025 and 2.8 in 2026. Even with those incremental changes, Ridgefield’s rates remain well below both state and national averages.
How Connecticut Stacks Up
The SafeWise study found that Connecticut as a whole performs well compared with national averages.

According to the report:
- Connecticut’s violent crime rate is 1.76 incidents per 1,000 residents, well below the national average of 4.43 per 1,000
- Property crime has risen slightly, increasing from 15.1 incidents per 1,000 people in 2024 to 16.98 per 1,000 in the current report
- Even with that increase, Connecticut remains below the national property crime rate of 22.89 per 1,000 residents
The study notes that nearly half of Connecticut residents — 48 percent — report using security cameras to protect their homes, while 33 percent rely on security systems .
The Top 10 Safest Communities in Connecticut
Ridgefield leads the list, followed by:
- Newtown
- Cheshire
- Wallingford
- Simsbury
- New Milford
- Greenwich
- Shelton
- Glastonbury
- Westport
SafeWise says the rankings are designed to “highlight cities with low per capita crime and ignite conversation and action around how to make all cities and communities safer.”
For Ridgefield, the numbers reinforce what many residents already feel — that the town continues to stand out not just for its schools, culture and sense of community, but also for public safety.
