World Open Masters Games in Abu Dhabi awards Ridgefield CT resident gold, silver medals
Connecticut's Mark Dollins takes world gold in jiu jitsu, silver in wrestling
The World Open Masters Games in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Republic, this week awarded Ridgefield, CT, resident Mark Dollins with gold and silver medals in the sports of jiu jitsu and beach wrestling.
Fighting in the 94kg weight class for jiu jitsu in the over-55 age division, Dollins claimed the gold medal. He competed in a field of more than 100 white belt athletes from more than 30 countries.
Wrestling in the 90kg weight class at the beach wrestling earlier in the week at Hudayriat Island, Dollins, 65, advanced to the championship round, taking the silver medal in the 55+ age division.
More than 650 athletes from across the globe participated the jiu jitsu and wrestling tournaments February 7 - 15. They are among 23,000 athletes age 30+ competing in 37 sports in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) capital of Abu Dhabi at the Open Masters Games.
Dollins is a 4-time USA Wrestling national folkstyle national title holder in masters wrestling, and two-time national champion in USA Wrestling's Beach Wrestling. He coaches at Southside Wrestling Club in Bridgeport, CT.
