2 Caught In Stolen U-Haul In Rocky Hill: Police

Two people were arrested, and police found several items stolen from vehicles inside the U-Haul, according to officials.

ROCKY HILL, CT — Two people were arrested after they were caught driving a U-Haul that was stolen out of Vermont in Rocky Hill on Thursday morning, according to police.

Police saw the U-Haul around 8:45 a.m. on Silas Deane Highway in Rocky Hill and determined that it had been stolen out of Vermont.

A motor vehicle stop was conducted at an apartment complex, and police said the two occupants were taken into custody without incident.

The driver was identified Victor Orfin, of Burlington, Vermont, and the passenger was identified as Miranda Mumley, of Colchester, Vermont, according to police.

An investigation found that the vehicle was stolen from South Burlington, Vermont on Wednesday, according to police.

Police said several items were found in the vehicle that belonged different people and were consistent with thefts from motor vehicles.

Weapons, including a large hunting-style knife and an air soft replica of a firearm, were also found within the driver’s area, according to police.

Police said stolen items were returned to several victims from surrounding areas, and their local police departments were also notified for more investigation.

Orfin was charged with larceny of motor vehicle, illegal possession of weapon in motor vehicle, first-degree larceny, and sixth-degree larceny.

Mumley was charged with conspiracy to commit larceny of motor vehicle, conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny and sixth-degree larceny.

Orfin was being held in lieu of a $25,000 bond and Mumley was being held in lieu of a $10,000 bond. They are both scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
