ROCKY HILL, CT — A report of a natural gas odor at a multi-story residential complex prompted a temporary shelter-in-place order Wednesday afternoon.
Fire Chief Michael P. Garrahy said the department was dispatched to the complex, at 100 Cold Spring Rd., around 4:13 p.m.
Responding firefighters noticed a strong chemical odor within the building. After investigating, they determined it was coming from a highly concentrated vinegar-based cleaning solution being used inside the complex, according to Garrahy.
The shelter-in-place order was implemented as a precaution while firefighters investigated and ventilated the affected floors and stairwells.
Once the building was free of any residual chemical smells, the order was lifted, according to the fire department.
