Yoga Buzz

Check out how you too can get a yoga buzz!

Yoga buzz? What? Yes, similar to a glass or two of wine(calorie free, no artificial ingredients, gluten-free too!) you will also get a buzz from your yoga practice! See, now you will have something to talk about tomorrow around the water cooler! Who knew? Caught me by surprise! Many times referred to as a yoga aura feeling, difficult to describe, but similar to a feeling of euphoria. As you arrive on your yoga mat, you tune in, chill out and forget the outside world and you spend time with yourself. Breathing while matching breath with movement is simply meditation in motion, priceless!

Who can benefit from yoga? Everyone, no matter shape, size or level of flexibility. Who needs yoga? Everyone! If you experience chronic back pain, fatigue, arthritis, cancerneed to increase flexibility, improve balance, need to lose weight, (yes, yoga does help facilitate weight loss)you need yoga. Yoga is a powerful and impressive mind/body technique that will help reduce depression, stress, anxiety and restore energy, joy and balance back into your life.

Yoga is an influential tool that should be part of a healthy lifestyle, similar to insurance, you are covered with an array of health benefits that just can't be swallowed in a pill! No side affects to worry about, yoga can be done anywhere, anytime, especially powerful when you are feeling a sense of helplessness, feeling of being overwhelmed, anxious, stressed over specific life events (i.e., divorce, death, moving, etc). Read the warning label, one side affect I need to mention, results show this occurs 100% of the time, new and improved muscle tone, strength and endurance!

Hatha - describes any of the physical practices of yoga combined with the mental discipline

Namaste - acknowledging teacher/student at end of practice.  "Nama"  means bow, "as" means I, and "te" means you. Namaste literally means "bow me you" or "I bow to you"

Pranayama - life force, breath control, brings more oxygen to your blood and brain

Savasana - occurs at the end of class, the very last pose called Corpse Pose, a resting pose to allows the benefits of the practice to seep in and heal

Yoga - to unite the mind, body and spirit.

Styles of Yoga - there are many yoga styles, some focus more on breath work, longer holding poses, strict alignment, flowing (moving from one pose to the other).  Style of yoga is practice based upon personal preference. A few styles to consider are outlined below:

Bikram - a system of 26 poses practiced two times in a heated room up to about 105 degrees.

Gentle - easier poses, great for beginners or for those who want a slower practice and to unwind at the end of a busy day.

Power (flow) - flow from one pose to the other while matching breath with movement, sometimes practiced with heat.

Restorative- a practice used with blocks, bolsters and blankets to help support your body in passive poses that are held longer.  A nourishing yoga to help release tension, stress and replenish your mind/body/spirit.

Yin - a quite practice(not gentle yoga) that stretches connective tissues/ligaments and require longer poses poses from 3 to 5 minutes.  A wonderful compliment to a regular moving practice.
