Rocky Hill Police: Calling All Cadets, We Want You
Through special training, cadets learn what it takes to have a career in law enforcement and participate in community events, such as food drives for needy families.
Several young adults considering whether to pursue a career in law enforcement have spent quite a bit of time recently volunteering and working along side officers.
The Rocky Hill Police cadet program allows young adults to learn the "day-to-day" operations of the department and get an "introductory lesson in law enforcement positions," according , an officer who assists with the program.

“They get classroom learning and hands-on experience,” Norman said.
Through the program, Foss-Rugan expects that these young people “are going to be more noticeable in the future.”

Once known as the police explorers, the group’s name was changed to Cadet Post #121 in honor of Sgt. Leonard Kulas, who was in charge of the program for several years before his death last April.
The cadets, who are equipped with uniforms and who are expected to be in the classroom once every two weeks, help with parking at major local events such as and the _ in Cromwell. All cadets are trained in CPR and First Aid and participate in a ride along with an officer, shadow a bike patrol and assist with department fundraisers such as food drives, child identification events and safety day.
On April 14, the cadets, along with the police officers, held a to benefit the town's at . They raised $918, including $30 worth of gift certificates and received “countless of boxes of food,” according to Officer Sara Raymond, the program’s lead advisor.
The police officers said the drive was successful because of the generosity of Stop & Shop Manager David Bruno.
The police department is "actively recruiting" and looking for any young adults between the ages of 14 and 20 interested in joining the cadets, should email Raymond at SRaymond@rockyhill.gov. Applications are also located at the police department
