Dinosaur State Park Continues 50th Anniversary Celebration

Several activities are on tap for July.

ROCKY HILL, CT - Dinosaur State Park continues its 50th anniversary celebration of the discovery of dinosaur tracks in Rocky Hill with a series of events throughout the year. July is author month and there will be a different author each Saturday at 1:00 p.m. reading from their books and doing a book signing.

Nicholas McDonald will give short presentation about his book “Window Into the Jurassic World.” This book is aboutDinosaur State Park and features information about the history of the park, fossil finds in Connecticut, the Park’s trails and Arboretum. Nick will be available to sign copies of his book.

Janet Lawler will read from her new children’s book, “The Prehistoric Games” and sign copies. This beautifully illustrated book makes a great gift. To add to the fun, there will be a series of outdoor activities called Bird Olympics. Children will participate in a series of activities to learn more about dinosaur’s closest living relatives – birds.

July 16

Christina Vrba will read her children’s book, “Good Night Connecticut” and sign copies. As part of Dinosaur State Park’s “first 50” celebration, the first 50 families to pay admission on that day will receive a free gift.

July 23

Brendan Hanrahan from Perry Heights Press will discuss his book “Great Day Trips in the Connecticut Valley of the Dinosaurs.” Brendan will be available to sign copies.

Dinosaur State Park is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. 4:30 p.m. The museum and park trails are closed on Mondays. Admission is $6 for visitors ages 13 and older, $2 for children ages 6-12 and ages 5 and under are free.

The park features a display of more than 500 early Jurassic dinosaur footprints and related exhibits. The footprints are housed inside the museum along with a bookshop and Discovery Room. Outdoors there are 2.5 miles of shady hiking trails, track casting and mining activities, flower gardens and a picnic area.
