Car Strikes Occupied Building, Gas Leak Ensues In Rocky Hill
Fire officials shared new details about the accident, which led to the evacuation of eight apartments on Thursday afternoon.

ROCKY HILL, CT — Fire officials released new details about a serious motor vehicle accident where a car struck a building on Meyers Drive, which led to a natural gas leak, authorities said.
At 1:35 p.m. the Rocky Hill Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident where a car struck a building at on Meyers Drive. Fire Chief Michael Garrahy found a vehicle against an occupied apartment building with an active natural gas leak. Connecticut Natural Gas responded to the scene.
The driver of the vehicle had self-extricated and was treated and transported by EMS. With the assistance of Rocky Hill Police eight apartments were searched and the residents evacuated, officials said.

After about 40 minutes CNG was able to control, then stop the flow of natural gas, officials said. Fire crews then re-entered the building and ventilated all residual natural gas, rendering the buildings safe to re-occupy.
Cromwell and Wethersfield Fire Departments assisted, officials said. During this incident it was necessary to close Dividend Road to traffic for about 45 minutes.
