Historic Ferry Still Not Running Because of High Water Levels

The ferry was supposed to start operating a month ago.

ROCKY HILL/GLASTONBURY, CT — High water levels on the Connecticut River are still keeping the historic ferry between Rocky Hill and Glastonbury at the dock.

State Department of Transportation officials reiterated on Thursday morning that the ferry is still not operating. It traditionally starts to operate for the season on April 1.

The ferry consists of a tug and barge and the high water levels create a poor angle for loading and unloading vehicles, state DOT officials have said. Swifter currents also make it dangerous to cross the river because of the potential to encounter floating debris, DOT officials have said.
