Jamie's Run for Connecticut Children's
6th Annual Jamie's Run for Connecticut Children's Takes Place next Saturday!
Jamie’s Run for Connecticut Children’s expects over 700 runners and walkers to participate in the 6th annual event! The event is held on November 8 at 9 a.m. at Standish Park in Old Wethersfield, featuring a 5K, Charity Walk and Kids K Fun Run! The courses are flat and wind through the quaint village of Old Wethersfield, passing historic homes and landmarks. The 5K is flat and fast and is a great qualifier for the Manchester Road Race. Families can enjoy a pre- and post-race celebration with refreshments, kid’s activities, inflatables, music, games and more. Look out for the Hartford Yard Goats and Hartford Wolfpack mascots on site!
The race is held in honor of Jamie Knotts. Jamie died in January 2010 at the age of 5 ½ months from a rare type of liver tumor. The proceeds of the race benefit the Pediatric Oncology Clinical Trials Program and The Family Assistance Fund. Jamie’s parents, Kurt and Kelly Knotts, were so taken by the care experience at Connecticut Children’s that they created a foundation and the event to give back and fight for a cure.
“Not only did we want to put on an event that honors Jamie, we want to directly impact childhood cancer research and treatment. The progress we’ve made here at Connecticut Children’s since Jamie was treated is giving hope to families. New, less toxic therapies are being advanced every day, and the research performed here is shared all over the world” states Kurt Knotts.
Race participants are encouraged to donate or fundraise for the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. Your support aids the search for a cure while easing the financial and emotional burden of children and their families as they fight these diseases.
