Man Accused of Shooting Hartford Firefighter in Rocky Hill Heads to Court

The man is accused of shooting an off-duty Hartford firefighter in a Rocky Hill industrial area.

ROCKY HILL, CT — The man charged in the springtime shooting of an off-duty Hartford firefighter in a Rocky Hill industrial area appeared in court on Wednesday and failed to post a $750,000 bond, a clerk at the court said.

Jesus Perez has been charged with criminal attempt to commit murder, first-degree assault, first-degree robbery, criminal possession of a firearm and Tampering with evidence, state police said. Perez was arresyed Monday.

His case was continued to July 18, a clerk at the court said.

Detectives from Central District Major Crime Squad arrested Perez after completing their investigation in the case.

During the late evening hours of April 20, Rocky Hill Police Department responded to 60 Belamose Ave. — the Belamose Business Park — for a reported injured person, according to the initial case report.

Officers located one male suffering from serious injuries, possibly from a gun shot and the man was transported to Hartford Hospital for treatment, according to the initial case report.

On April 21, at the request of the state's attorney's office, state police detectives assumed the investigation, according to the initial case report.

The matter appeared to be an isolated incident and there was never a threat to the public or community, state police said.

The off-duty firefighter was later identified as Jimmy Ngo, who authorities said was shot six times — five in the back and one time in the face. Police also said the person who called 911 to report the shooting was someone Ngo knew.

Police said they located Ngo inside a building in the complex.
