Mooreland Hill School Announces Michael D. Dooman Scholarship

A new-student tuition award has been created in memory of the late head of school; it's open to Rocky Hill-area students.

The Mooreland Hill School Board of Trustees has announced the creation of the Michael D. Dooman Scholarship.

This $12,000 scholarship will be awarded to a new student entering the sixth or seventh grade at the school in September. The recipient must demonstrate a love of learning, good citizenship, academic success and financial need. The scholarship, which pays half of yearly tuition, will be renewed each year that the student is enrolled at Mooreland, dependent on continued academic success, contributions to school life and financial need.

The scholarship is named in honor of Mooreland’s former Head of School who passed away in November. Dooman, Mooreland Class of 1978, was an inspirational educator, mentor and leader who spent 22 years at Mooreland, dedicating his life to educating children.

“The school is delighted to offer this scholarship to a student who embodies the exceptional qualities that Mike possessed and that, by example, he instilled in his students. We are also delighted to continue Mike’s legacy in this meaningful way,” Shirley Bendza, the president of the Mooreland Hill Board of Trustees, said in a statement.

Applicants for the scholarship should follow Mooreland’s standard application process and will be asked to write an essay on a topic designated by the school. A committee will select the scholarship recipient. Applications should be submitted by June 15.
