Obituary: Thomas J. McCabe, 55,

Athletic Director and Coordinator of Student Activities Thomas J. McCabe, 55, passed away Monday morning after battling a serious illness for several months.

"Tom touched the lives of thousands of Connecticut students and athletes. He had a passion for working with student athletes and served as a mentor both on and off the field," his obituary said.

McCabe was an administrator and physical education/health teacher for over 30 years in Glastonbury, Rocky Hill and East Hampton. He was also a coach in Southington, Windsor, New Britain, East Hampton and Glastonbury.

McCabe is survived by his four children.

Calling hours will be on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Farrell Funeral Home in New Britain. A funeral mass will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at . McCabe will be buried at a family plot in St. Mary Cemetery in New Britain.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be sent to the Thomas J. McCabe Children's Education Fund, c/o Liberty Bank 1169 Farmington Ave., Berlin, CT 06037.
