Restaurant Owner, Coach Charged After Fatal Pedestrian Crash In Rocky Hill, Police Say

ROCKY HILL, CT — A driver has been charged after a pedestrian was fatally struck Sunday night, police said.

At 8:42 p.m. Sunday, the Rocky Hill Police Communication Center received a 911 emergency call reporting a motor vehicle collision on Glastonbury Avenue.

Rocky Hill Police Officers, along with the Rocky Hill Fire Department, Rocky Hill Volunteer Ambulance, and Aetna Ambulance, all responded.

Police found a car vs. pedestrian collision and began emergency medical aid. The pedestrian, Miguel A. Collado Almonte, 65, of Rocky Hill, was transported to a nearby hospital by ambulance and was later pronounced deceased.

The operator of the vehicle remained on scene. Sarah Bezdelovs, 23, of Rocky Hill, was arrested and charged with operating under the influence, police said.

Bezdelovs served as the head volleyball coach at Rocky Hill High School and has been placed on leave, as reported by WFSB 3 TV.

Bezdelovs also is the owner of the Ferry Grill in Rocky Hill, according to WTNH News 8.

Mayor Allan Smith told News 8 that both Collado and Bezdelovs are well-known in the community, and this incident "just comes as a shock."
