Police Officer Struck By Driver During Traffic Stop: Rocky Hill PD

A Rocky Hill police officer was hospitalized after being struck by a driver they were trying to arrest during a traffic stop, police said.

ROCKY HILL, CT — A police officer was hospitalized after being struck by a driver he was trying to arrest during a traffic stop Tuesday night in Rocky Hill, according to officials.

The incident happened around 9:45 p.m. on Dec. 26 when a Rocky Hill patrol officer saw a vehicle with a registered owner that is the subject of an active arrest warrant, according to Sgt. Steve Morgan.

The officer initiated a motor vehicle stop on Cold Spring Road.

Morgan said the driver initially responded to the officer’s signal and pulled over.

“As the officer attempted to take the suspect out of the vehicle and in to custody, the driver quickly accelerated, striking the officer causing him to be knocked to the ground,” Morgan wrote in a news release. “The vehicle fled onto Interstate 91 North, however responding officers lost sight of the vehicle as it entered the City of Hartford.”

Morgan said the officer sustained minor injuries and was undergoing evaluation late Tuesday night at a local hospital.

Police are continuing to investigate, according to Morgan.
