Rocky Hill Appoints Charter Commission
Seven people have been named to the town's Charter Revision Commission.
Seven people have been named to the town’s Charter Revision Commission.
The commision will be composed of four Republicans and three Democrats, according to the Hartford Courant.
Members of the commision will get recommendations from the Town Council on areas that it would like to see changed. After that the commission will hold meetings, take public input and ultimately put forth a revision to the Town Council, which can then decide whether to accept, reject or change proposed revisions before the item goes to a referendum vote.

A charter is a municipality’s central legislative document and functions in a similar manner to the state or U.S. Constitution.
Some items likely to be put forth include changes on term limits for the mayor and council and changes to spending limits, according to the Courant.

Under state law a municipality must periodically consider changes to the charter. Generally changes to a town charter can be as minor as cleaning-up outdated or confusing language or as major as changing term limits and the way the town operates.
